FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UNH's McCANN Adds Insight to PAA-Africa project.

Durham, NH -- November 6, 2006 -- University of New Hampshire historian Frank D. McCann sat down with Producer John Schwally for an extended interview on Pan American Airways' role during the critical years leading up to U.S. involvement in World War II.  The discussion centered on how Pan Am carried out President Franklin D. Roosevelt's Airport Development Program in the Caribbean and Latin America.  The details and ramifications of Pan Am's role were discussed in detail for nearly 90 minutes.  A most interesting - and enlightening - interview.

Professor McCann is the author of The Brazilian-American Alliance, 1937-1945, the quintessential tomb on one of the least-noted, yet vitally important international relationships of the early Twentieth Century.  In it, McCann reports on events leading up to World War II, and how Germany, Britain, and the United States vied for its favors.  An entire chapter is dedicated to the story of Pan American and the Airport Development Program.

Prof. McCann is glad to see Wings Across the Sahara is in the works and was more than happy to discuss the story on camera. He noted, "America owes a great deal of gratitude to Pan Am for it's efforts before and during WWII."
