FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Schwally at Rutgers University WWII Africa Conference

New Brunswick, NJ -- March 31, 2008 -- Rutgers University, in association with Cornell, Columbia and Ohio State Universities, organized a 3-day conference of international scholars and researchers to focus on the role of Africa in World War II.  As part of the esteemed group in attendance, JFS Films' Producer John Schwally was asked to participate as the producer of the Wings Across the Sahara documentary film.

The workshop surveyed the social, cultural, political and economic impact of World War II on the African continent. In addition, it discussed the possibility of launching a major publication project that would result in the production of a text and supporting materials (web site, CD-ROMS, images, primary documents) that would be used in advanced undergraduate classes on Africa, the African diaspora, and more general classes on World War II.

Carolyn Brown Associate Professor for History at Rutgers was a primary organizer of the conference along with Cornell's Judith Byfield.  Professor Brown was extremely excited to come across Wings Across the Sahara as there is so little documentary work on the subject. She was hopeful that Schwally's attendance at the conference would provide additional information to the scholarly research and perhaps provide insight to JFS Films into acquiring finishing funds for the film to be ready for the next gatheringThe conference adjourned looking to the future - a follow-up conference at Cornell University in 2009, with a presentation of a completed Wings Across the Sahara film.
