JFS Films, LLC Lands Pan Am - AfricaWashington, DC -- January 21, 2001-- Producer John Schwally met today with authors Tom Culbert and Andy Dawson, and publisher/historian R.E.G. (Ron) Davies to confirm plans to produce a one-hour documentary for television based on their book “Pan Africa: Across the Sahara in 1941 with Pan Am”. The program will focus on the men who built the historic trans-African air route from virtually nothing into the most important global air link of World War II. Col. Culbert (USAF-ret.) and Dawson, a Pan American Airways (PAA)- Africa alumnus, will be advising JFS Films and providing contacts with dozens of surviving PAA-Africa veterans. The project, tentatively named "Across the Sahara", will include interviews with the men who built the route along with never before seen original film footage and photographs from 1941-42 taken by the 'Africans' as they flew across the Dark Continent. A proposal package will soon be available for review by prospective funders and broadcast outlets. Videotaping, including an historic return to the main PAA-Africa base in Accra, Ghana, is scheduled to begin this summer with a potential late fall broadcast date to mark PAA-Africa's 60th anniversary.
